The Golden Gate Bridge

The Golden Gate Bridge

From its official opening in 1937 (when it was the tallest & longest suspension bridge in the world), the Golden Gate Bridge has been a landmark that is recognized worldwide. The mile long bridge connects San Francisco and Marin County crossing over the strait between the Pacific Ocean and the San Francisco Bay.

While you can see the Golden Gate Bridge from many places in San Francisco, you can also enhance the experience by taking a guided bus tour, bike the bridge or walk across to the other side. At the base of the bridge, the Welcome Center offers a variety of historical information, old photos and merchandise for sale. You can also grab some food and drinks at the Bridge Cafe or Round House Cafe.
